OPENING MEETING SHOOT OUT
The Rolly Inn Battle of the Twins Sidecars and Best Pairs Solos meeting is fast approaching. Open day blues to be sorted by some (and the water truck), should see an exciting entertaining afternoon of racing on the 26th October at Moore Park. At 1pm.
Sidecars Battle of The Twins has attracted around 10 combinations which will fight it out for the title as well provide a field of multi cylinder units for support racing. Invercargill’s Fraser Gillespie will line up against Lionel Green. New boy Clint Warwood has entered as has Calvin Ashworth. Working feverishly to make the meeting is Liam Stockman and the Wilson team while Nigel Payton and Mike Zahn are making the trip down from Nelson.
Best Pairs Solos has the potential to provide some interesting combinations. Larry Ross, who won the title last year with Andy Aldridge, heads the A list of riders which includes the Under 21 Champion Grant Tregoning, Invercargill riders Alex Cunningham and Jamie Moohan, and local lad Kody Tocher. Nelsons Sean Cox will return to the track which should give us six combinations. The pairings are to be announced on race day and the mix will contain some of the less experienced riders who will be paired up with one of the above. Youngsters Karl Bagshaw from Auckland, Corey Lang (Greymouth), Ryan Moss, John Ross and veteran Craig Blackett are some of the riders who will be partnering one of the above. All new combinations are formed each year. The attempt is to provide an entertaining program while giving some of these younger riders the opportunity to learn from more experienced racers.
A full field of support solo riders have also entered and Jenny Schafer makes a formal return to competitive racing as a senior while Josh O’Dockerty will make his debut.
A junior solo class will also race in support with Anthony Knowles coming head to head with Invercargill’s best junior, Jack McRae.
