Heat 01: Re-run x 2 Bunyan,Gathercole,Simmons,Watson 5-1 66.9
To be re-run after Watson fell due to first bend bunching, too tight and it was a domino effect. In re-run, Watson was moving at the start, all 4 back again. 3rd time lucky! Watson was taking RR. Islanders untroubled, Watson struggled, Simmons got into 3rd on 2nd lap.

Heat 02: Re-run Oliver,Holder,Bargh,Birkinshaw(NS) 3-3 70.3 8-4
As per first heat, Birkinshaw came off on 1st bend however Birkinshaw was leaning on Holder (remember these are the texters comments). Birkinshaw being looked over by the paramedics. Birkinshaw did not take his place in the re-run. Oliver flew around the Island pair, Bargh had engine failure on 3rd lap but cruised around for the point. Birkinshaw withdrawn from the meeting with a possible ankle injury.

Heat 03: Phillips,Lyons,Smart,Bargh(EF) 3-3 67.1 11-7
Bargh in for RR, had engine failure on lap 2, Lyons pushed Phillips all the way but Phillips held off for the win.

Heat 04: Stojanowski,Watson,Holder,Oliver 4-2 67.7 15-9
Evenly spread through out the 4 laps.

Heat 05: Re-run Lyons,Phillips,Simmons,Holder(Ex) 2-4 66.4 17-13
Oliver replaces Birkinshaw. Holder fell on bend 1 and has been excluded. Lyons taking RR. No stopping Lyons, miles out in front!

Heat 06: Gathercole,Bunyan,Watson,Oliver 5-1 67.6 22-14
Easy 5-1 for the Islanders, from the gate.

Heat 07: Lyons,Stojanowski,Smart,Bargh 2-4 66.9 24-18
Stojanowski had a good go in the 1st few laps but Lyons pulled away.

Heat 08: Simmons,Gathercole,Holder,Oliver 3-3 67.9 27-21
Great win by Simmons who was untroubled!

Stojanowski taking RR. Stojanowski completely messed up the start, Watson started to pull away, comfortable win .

Heat 10: Lyons,Bunyan,Gathercole,Smart(F/Ex) 3-3 Awarded 33-27
Lyons way out in front again, Smart lost control of bike 2nd bend of 4th lap. He is being checked over by paramedics.

Simmons in for RR. Amazing first bend, how they all stayed on god only knows, very tight! But Island pair appeared out in front.

Heat 14: Holder,Simmons(TS),Oliver,Bargh (EF) 3-5 69.6 48-38
Simmons takes a tactical substiture. Simmons passed Bargh and Oliver bend 3 and 4 in 1 swoop.

AN EVENTFUL NIGHT BUT TWO MORE LEAGUE POINTS SECURED...

It was a very eventful night at Smallbrook as the Wightlink Islanders powered to a 51-41 victory over the Birmingham Brummies to secure to more Premier League points and that despite the visitors' veteran Jason Lyons, who celebrates his 38th birthday this coming Sunday, winning all bar one of his six rides.
His only defeat came in the first of those in heat 3 when he couldn't catch fast-starting Wightlink Islander Glen Phillips
Twice referee Paul Carrington stopped the opening heat and ordered re-starts and, at the third time of asking home skipper Jason Bunyan and partner Cory Gathercole powered to a maximum 5-1 to put the Islanders in command immediately.
Visiting reserve James Birkinshaw took a hefty tumble on the first bend of heat 2 and required lengthy medical attention on an ankle injury which ruled him out of the rest of the match although it appears that no bones were broken.
With the medical crew administering help to him on track for some considerable time and thus the circuit blocked, the trackstaff were unable to water the circuit further and that led to somewhat tricky conditions for the rest of the meeting.
Birmingham suffered further misfortune in heat 10 when their No.4 Lee Smart crashed heavily on his own accord whilst lying fourth and, like Birkinshaw earlier, was ruled out of taking any further rides having been knocked out by the impact and consequently suffering from mild concussion.
With Smart's crash, any remote danger of the Wightlink Islanders surrendering their unbeaten 2008 home record evaporated completely although Lyons, and ex-Islander Nicky Simmons battled on bravely for the Brummies.
But the Wightlink Islanders were far too strong for their opponents with skipper Bunyan leading by example and being deservedly nominated as the Wightlink Islanders' "Rider of the Night" by meeting sponsors P.E. Composites Ltd of Newport.

EXPENSIVE NIGHT FOR OUR YOUNG KIWI...

Wightlink Islanders Kiwi reserve Andrew Bargh faces a four figure repair bill after blowing his No.1 engine to bits in his second ride of the night in heat 3. He was forced to switch to his second bike, which is more suited to the smaller circuits around the land, for the rest of the meeting.
"There's a great big hole in the crankcase of my best engine," he said, "and I'm not sure if anything can be salvaged let alone repairs to it being possible!
"I really don't know what I'm going to do at the moment," he concluded rather despondently.

NEXT TUESDAY AT SMALLBROOK...

Next Tuesday's action on the island will see the Wightlink Islanders attempt to pull back a 15 points deficit from the away leg to reach the semi-finals of this year's Premier League KO Cup.
Standing between them and progression in the competition are the Workington Comets who will arrive confident of defending that advantage gained in Saturday's first leg at Derwent Park but Islanders co-promoter Dave Pavitt is confident the Island side can win through.
"The tie is nicely poised," he said, "but we think we can do it especially if our fans turn out in force to cheer us on.
"We'll be battling for each and every point from the time the tapes rise for the first race right through to the end of heat 15."
And those tapes rise on the first race at the usual time of 7.30p.m. next Tuesday.
