I put the word 'Poole' in inverted comments coz frankly I can't really see in what sense this quartet was a 'Poole' side in any other way than the name and race jackets donned for these six heats...
Jerran, Alex (a Kiwi..: is THAT allowed in the AL..??!! ) and Rikki were all in the Crusaders team which had just competed in the preceding CL match. Jerran & Rikki are likely to be turning out for Lakeside/Arena this year as they did last season..
People with me (a first timer and an only occasional visitor) asked me to explain how this team could be called Poole and I couldn't explain.. Surely if a club decides to enter the AL they must actually have some junior riders..: on this showing seems that there may be a different set of riders (belonging to whatever hosting or visiting team is available) representing the Academy Pirates in every away match..: and surely that's just plain daft..!!
Anyhow, real star of the Academy/junior racing was Sittingbourne mascot, 13 year old Marc Owen who rode three four laps demonstrations interspersed between these AL heats and recorded times on his 250cc machine of 62.2, 61.2 and 61.1: the latter two, quicker than all but one winning time in the AL match!!
Roll on first that 14th. and then that 15th. birthday!!!!
