Last Saturday a very emotional presentation was made during the interval of the Gold Coast Laurels meeting at Mike Hatcher Park. Former Solo star Dave Booth or Boothie as he was effectionately known, died of cancer a few months ago. Boothies dieing wish was for proceeds from his memorial meeting which was held in December to go towards the development of Junior Speedway in South East Queensland. The popularity of Dave as well as the inclusion of World Champion Jason Crump at that meeting ensured a bumper crowd. The Gold Coast club have purchased a 350cc Jawa with some of the money, fourteen year old Tyson Nelson being the first lucky youngster to take advantage, although he will have to wait for his first ride aboard the bike as he's currently out of action with a broken wrist.
