A field of twelve Junior Solos took to the track for the Gold Coast Laurels, the twelve rider format meant that Grafton based fifteen year old Jordan Stevens had to be content with being first reserve, although he did give a glimpse of his talent with two wins when making replacement rides and a couple of solo runs. Another rider from NSW making his debut was nine year old Josh Slokee, Josh showed great promise by winning the B final in style, he could easily of made the A final at the first attempt had it not been for a tape breaking exclusion in his second ride. There are a crop of riders starting to emerge from Northern New South Wales with the likes of Mitch Shirra heavily involved coaching youngsters in the area where he now resides. Apart from the Gold Coast regulars Nick Morris had made the journey down from North Queensland and there were other new faces in the lineup, including expat Kiwi Jack Strong who was making his first appearance at this track after reloacting from NZ, all in all this lineup showed a refreshing indication of the new found interest in this part of the world with most of the riders under 12 years of age and quite a few others sitting this one out through injury etc. After four rounds of heats the top scorers were Nick Morris 12, Jake Moore 9, Harley Brigden 9, and Zaine Kennedy 7, and that was the finishing order in the A grade final. The B grade final was won by Josh Slokee with placegetters Matt Day and Jake Allen having a ding done battle behind Josh, Allen had made the A final at the last Gold Coast meeting.
